Functions

The regulating council of protected denomination of origin of Alicante was established in 1957 in order to manage the P.D.O which was granted in 1932. The headquarters are located in the city of Alicante and carries out the following:
- To certify wineries under the PDO Alicante.
- To promote this certification and the wine culture from Alicante.
The regulating council is created by the denomination law ‘corporate of public affairs’ This is independent from any other public firm but some of their activities are under the control of the regional government bureau for agricultural, fishing and food affairs.
The main sponsors are the Regional Government Bureau for Agricultural, Fishing and Food affairs which offers economic aid to promote the quality and international trade, etc) and the County Council of Alicante. Futhermore, the Regulating Council collaborates with the Camber of Commerce of Alicante and the ICEX (Instituto de Comercio Exterior) or the IVEX (Instituto Valenciano de la Exportación) as well as other institutions and organizations across the province of Alicante.
